Healthy Lifestyle: It’s a common misconception that all you need to get in shape is healthy eating and exercise. In fact, not only are these two conditions necessary for a healthy lifestyle, but in life, there is a tendency toward a good mood, good mental health, and a positive self-image. While there is a wealth of information out there on how to lead a healthy lifestyle, there are a few considerations to keep in mind:
- Drink more water. Most of us don’t drink enough water on a daily basis, but it’s important for our bodies to function properly. Water is essential for performing bodily functions, removing waste, and fueling our systems with nutrients and oxygen. We need to replenish the amount of water in our body every day as we lose water through urinating, defecation, sweating, and breathing. The amount of water we need depends on a number of circumstances, but the average adult needs two to three liters a day. Urine, which should be colorless or pale yellow, is a helpful way to tell if you’re drinking enough water.
- Get enough sleep. Consume more if you are not getting enough sleep. Usually, it’s just junk food.
- Exercise. Every day, not several times a week. You can lower your risk of disease, increase bone density, and possibly increase your life expectancy by getting 30 minutes of exercise a day.
- Eat more fruits and vegetables. Vitamins and minerals vital for health are found in all fruits and vegetables. To stay healthy, it is recommended to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
- Eat the rainbow. Look for brightly colored items in the produce department. Rich in antioxidants (which neutralize free radicals in our home that cause common cases of cell disease), they make illnesses more palatable. Here are some things to consider:
- Colour: white (bananas, mushrooms)
- Orange (pineapple, mango) • Yellow (pineapple, mango) (orange, papaya)
- Red color (apples, strawberries, tomatoes, watermelons)
- Green color (guava, avocado, cucumber, lettuce, celery)
- Blue/Purple (Blackberry, Eggplant, Plum)
- Cut down on processed foods. Processed foods are not healthy. Processed foods lose much of their nutritional value, and the added preservatives are harmful to human health. These foods are high in salt, which can lead to high blood pressure and heart disease. The product is more processed if there are more components mentioned on the label.
- Avoid negative people in your life. Positive thinking is essential for a healthy life. Negativity has no place in your life. Release someone or a friend if you think this is negative.
- Avoid negativity within yourself. You don’t need your own negativity either. Allow any negative thoughts to leave your mind. You’re more likely to overeat when you’re upset. So staying positive will help you avoid an unhealthy addiction to food to feel happy.
- Avoid trigger foods. This is a delicacy that you can’t tear yourself away from after the first bite. Candy, chocolate, potato chips, cookies, or anything with a lot of refined sugar, salt, fat, or flour are common trigger foods.
- Take your time eating. The organ responsible for feeling hungry and full is the brain, not the stomach. If you eat slowly and take your time with your food, your brain has enough time to send a “full” message to your stomach so that the food can be fully digested. Don’t rely on a clean plate to show you’re full.
