A natural combination of honey and coffee may be more effective in treating certain types of cough than commonly prescribed systemic steroids, according to a study published in a respected American journal.
This is the so-called post-infection cough, which can persist for several weeks after an upper respiratory infection or a cold. Not only is such a cough irritating, it can also lead to sleep deprivation, irritation of the throat and respiratory tract, and general malaise.

All the more interesting is the experience, which involved 97 patients who did not have such a cough for more than three weeks. They were divided into several groups, one of which received a paste of 20.8 grams of honey and 2.9 grams of instant coffee. Others drank conventional medical expectorants.

Each participant was asked to dissolve the substance in warm water and drink it every eight hours for a week. During treatment, participants were asked to measure their cough frequency.
The most impressive results were found in the group that received coffee and honey. Therefore, the researchers concluded that honey and coffee are natural food substances that are safe, pleasant, cheaper than drugs, and readily available.
