According to the study, the “forever chemicals” that are frequently found on various cookware and food packaging may quadruple the risk of cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the chemicals are present practically everywhere, including tap water, nonstick culinary utensils, waterproof clothing, cleaning supplies, and shampoo.
According to the Daily Mail, the study revealed that non-viral hepatocellular carcinoma, a kind of liver cancer, was 4.5 times more likely to occur in persons who had the highest levels of a documented exposure to such chemicals.
This is the first study in humans to demonstrate that PFAS is connected with this condition, according to Dr. Jesse Goodrich, a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Southern California. “Liver cancer is one of the most devastating endpoints in liver disease,” he added.
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), such as perfluorobutane sulfate (PFOS), are known as “forever chemicals” because they might take years to break down in the body or environment.

The data of 50 persons with liver cancer and 50 people without it were analyzed by the researchers. The examination of blood samples from cancer patients before their diagnosis and a comparison with those who never had the disease came next. Many different chemical kinds were discovered in the bloodstreams of individuals who later developed cancer.
The greater levels indicated a higher likelihood of developing cancer as well.
The researchers also pointed out that PFOS can cause fatty liver disease by altering metabolism when they enter the liver. The disease increases the risk of liver cancer in those who have it.
